Even on your most confident days, do you still avoid flashing a photo-worthy smile? That could be a sign you’re ready to take steps toward straighter, healthier teeth.

Thanks to the team at Brandon Family Dental in Ortonville, MI, you can kiss your crooked, misaligned teeth good-bye and say hello to a more confident smile.

We offer a couple different orthodontic treatment options to patients who want to fix their smiles. Dr. Angela Harrell and our team at Brandon Family Dental can help you determine which option is best for you. You can learn more about each option below.

Full Bracket Orthodontics Treatment

Full bracket orthodontics are usually recommended for children who need braces, but they can work for patients of all ages. Braces straighten teeth using pressure from the brackets and wires.

You’ll first have to come in and see us to find out if you are a good candidate for braces. During that consultation, we will be able to give you a better idea of how long you will need to wear your braces.

Our friendly staff at Brandon Family Dental is more than happy to help guide you or your child through the orthodontics treatment with regular office visits. At each visit, you will likely have your braces tightened and rubber bands changed.

Throughout your treatment, it’s important to take proper care of your teeth and braces to prevent damage, decay, or staining of your teeth.

Invisalign

Both adults and teens can benefit from Invisalign as well. Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces. It uses clear aligners that are customized to fit your mouth.

Your clear aligners will put slight pressure on your teeth to correct your smile. You will replace your aligner every two weeks or so to slowly adjust your teeth as needed.

The aligners can be removed when you eat, so you don’t have to give up your favorite foods. Just don’t forget to take them out to brush and floss your teeth. To keep your Invisalign aligners clean, you’ll also want to soak and clean them when you clean your teeth.

Invisalign vs. Braces: Which Orthodontic Treatment Is Right For You?

There are two obvious differences between braces and Invisalign.

Braces can’t be removed until your treatment is complete. Invisalign is removed when you eat and when you clean your teeth. Additionally, while braces involve brackets on your teeth, Invisalign aligners are clear, making them less noticeable.

Another significant difference is the amount of time the patient has to wear them. Braces are usually worn for an average of two years depending on your specific needs. Invisalign aligners are usually worn for six to 18 months depending on your individual needs.

Invisalign aligners usually work best for patients whose teeth need slight adjustments and straightening. Traditional braces probably aren’t a good idea for patients who regularly play rough contact sports.

It can be tempting for patients to take the aligners out when they should be wearing them. If you’re worried that you or your child may not wear the aligners as much as you should, braces might be a better option. However, for patients with a good amount of self-discipline, Invisalign may be a great option.
