You haven’t been to the dentist in … years? Decades?

If so, you should know that it’s OK. There are a lot of reasons that millions of people experience dental anxiety. You certainly have a lot of company if you haven’t been getting two dental cleanings every year.

But 2019 can be the year that you change that. It can be the year that you start coming to Brandon Family Dental. Our sedation dentistry options have helped many of our patients in and around Ortonville, MI receive the care they need and deserve.

We want you to keep your healthy smile. Call 248-469-0218 to learn how we can make that easier for you.

Do More Than Brushing & Flossing

You should brush and floss your teeth every day, according to the American Dental Association. From surveys, however, the ADA knows that fewer than half of all people actually do floss daily.

And informally, we know that not everyone brushing for “two minutes, twice a day” like the ADA suggests.

We aren’t being critical. People are only human, after all, and few people brush and floss exactly like they should every single day. That’s OK. It’s also a big part of the reason getting regular dental cleanings and exams is so important.

Using conservative estimates, more than 90 percent of people will develop at least one cavity, and 70 percent or more of people will develop gum disease. A professional cleaning can help remove plaque and tartar before they lead to decay and periodontal problems. Regular exams are how we catch those issues in the early stages, so treatments are less invasive and more effective.

We also understand that this is much easier said than done for anyone with dental anxiety. It’s also why we make patient comfort one of our top priorities.

Make Yourself Comfortable

We have learned from our decades of combined experience that trust is a big factor in your dental experience. It’s why we do everything we can to help you feel more at ease when you visit our office.

This starts with private patient rooms, so you don’t have to feel self-conscious about your care. We are happy to provide special glasses during your appointments, so you can distract yourself by watching one of your favorite television programs. To keep you cozy, we’ll gladly let you borrow a pillow and blanket as well.

But, if you do need a little assistance feeling relaxed, then you should ask about our dental sedation. Inhaled sedation, or laughing gas, works well and works quickly. By breathing in the gas, you can stay calm and pain-free.

Patients with more serious anxieties or who are receiving more complicated treatment may prefer oral sedation. This is as simple as taking a dose of medication prior to your appointment so you will stay relaxed and pain-free for a few hours. You will need to arrange for a family member or friend to drive you to and from your appointment if you choose this option.
