Here at Brandon Family Dental, we are dedicated to helping our patients get the care they need as comfortably as possible! That means providing top-notch dental sedation solutions that can allow you to undergo even the most complicated procedures without stress or pain. In fact, today we would like to talk about the types of sedation we offer as well as three ways that dental sedation can help you that you may not have thought about. Our Ortonville, MI dental team is here for you. Dental care is no longer something you have to avoid.

Types Of Sedation That We Offer

We offer two different levels of dental sedation here at our office. Each option can be used to help you feel comfortable according to your specific needs. Let’s talk about each of our options briefly:

Nitrous Oxide Sedation – Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a low level sedation option designed to simply take the edge off of your nerves. If you are only a little bit anxious, this option might be great for you. It works fast and wears off quickly so that you can drive yourself home from your appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation – Oral conscious sedation is our mid-level sedation option. It is used in situations where the patient is moderately anxious or fearful. This medication is taken by mouth before the procedure in order to create a very relaxed, even groggy, state. If you have been avoiding the dentist’s office because of your anxiety, this option might be right for you.

Three Unlikely Benefits Of Sedation

You know that dental sedation can help you get the care you need when you have dental fear or anxiety, but did you know that it can help in other situations as well? Let’s talk about three other situations in which dental sedation can be beneficial:

#1: Sedation can help with a busy schedule.

Did you know that dental sedation can be used to help patients with a very busy schedule? We can offer sedation to patients who want to undergo multiple treatments (or multiple parts of a treatment) in just one appointment. These procedures may typically be done in several different appointments, but with the help of dental sedation, you will be comfortable long enough to complete them all in one go. This is a great solution for patients who want to get all of the work done as quickly as possible. Talk to our team to find out if this is a good solution for you.

#2: Sedation can help patients with disabilities to relax.

If you or a member of your family have a mental disability which does not allow them to sit still for long periods of time, sedation may also be for you. It can also be beneficial if your family member is scared of the situation because he or she doesn’t fully understand what is going on. Whatever the case, we can use sedation to allow them to completely relax. This is make sure that the appointment is stress free and that the dental works that needs to be done gets completed. If you think dental sedation can help your family with a situation like this, please talk to our team.

#3: Sedation can help patients with severe gag get through their appointment.

Do you or someone you know have a severe gag reflex? Think it will affect your dental appointment? In fact, it can. Excessing gaging during your appointment can make getting the care you need more difficult. However, we can use dental sedation to physically relax your body, allowing your gag reflex to relax as well. This is a great way to get the care you need comfortably and without stress.
